A Buffet for 2025
The new year doesn’t start until mid-January anyway
Yesterday it was New Year’s Eve and now it’s more than halfway through January.
Time, man!
I strongly believe that the new year doesn’t start until the second week of January. We need time to recuperate after the holidays before diving into new years and new goals.
That being said, I love January! I’m a big goal setter. I tend to come into the new year with a lot of pie in the sky ideas and I like to sift through and think about what I’d really love to work on.
Even with that sifting, I usually end up with a too long list. I like having a buffet to choose from and feeling jazzed about all the possibilities. Also, a long goals list makes me more cognizant of how limited time is and becomes a gentle reminder to rest instead of scroll and make instead of clean. Yes, I am annoying to be around in January : ).
I updated my 2025 creative project list here. A few things I’m especially excited about:
Given the state of the world, I’m interested in taking on some craftivism in 2025 and also upcycling textiles.
Sewing clothes! Starting with classic fleece PJs and moving my way up. Will this be the year I wear only beautiful, stylish handmade clothes? Probably not, but give me a few years!
WRITING! I added more to my writing list this year (querying picture books, revising my middle grade manuscript, playing with a humor book proposal) and still need to work out exactly when I’ll make all of this happen, but I truly feel too excited about all of it to cut my goals list.
What I’m Making
Finished three of these books to give to much-loved kiddos in my life this Christmas. I’m so excited with how they turned out (and relieved that no kid has been able to tear them apart yet).
What I’m Enjoying
I’m not a classical music person, but the new Jon Batiste album may be turning me into one. It’s so good and the perfect background music for just about anything. Playing it while I cook dinner makes me feel like I’m a character in a movie. I loved this video of Jon Batiste talking about his experimentational creative process.
SNOW! After a week of harrowing wind, we finally have less of that and actual snowfall. It’s currently at the stage where snow’s glistening and beautiful and hasn’t yet become slushy, grimy piles on the side of the road.

Those books are SO cool!!
The new Batiste is so fun! Though Fur Elise will never not remind me of piano lessons past
